The aim of the project was to plot and illustrate the current course and scope of technological change which will come through electrification, automation and integration.
The resulting Technology Calendar is intended as a guide to the structural change in the automotive industry, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Baden-Württemberg, acting as a countdown to the year 2030 and showing the various milestones along the pathways in the development of future technologies.
The ZSW developed the Technology Calendar in an interdisciplinary project team, working with the German Aerospace Center (Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt - DLR), the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Karlsruher Institut für Technologie - KIT) and the IMU Institute (IMU Institut). Expert input and stakeholder workshops were instrumental in broadening technical expertise and ensuring the practical feasibility of the project results for SMEs while the project was still running.
The project was funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Housing Construction (Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Arbeit und Wohnungsbau Baden-Württemberg) which is feeding the results into the wider debate on strategy in the automotive industry.
The project ran from July 2018 to December 2019, and the results were published in July 2020.
